LiDARmoves

Support

Email [email protected]. Tell us the device, the iOS version and what you were measuring — that is usually enough to work out what happened.

Which devices work?

LiDARmoves needs the LiDAR scanner: iPhone 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max or any later Pro model, and iPad Pro from 2020 onwards. iOS 16 or later. Non-Pro iPhones have no LiDAR and the app will say so on launch.

Getting a good measurement

Technique matters more than any setting. The app shows this guidance the first time you open Opening mode, and it is always available from the drawer at the top of the screen.

Accuracy

DistanceTypical error
Under 1.5 mabout ±10 mm
2–3 mabout ±20–30 mm
Around 5 m±50 mm and rising

Frame fabrication works to ±1–2 mm, so this is a survey tool, not a substitute for a laser meter on final production dimensions. Every exported sheet carries that caveat in its title block, and any dimension not confirmed by agreeing passes is marked survey-only.

Common questions

A closed window is detected as an opening. Why?

Glass returns no LiDAR points, so a pane reads as a hole in the wall — which is what makes detection work at all. On iOS 17 and later the app also runs Apple's RoomPlan recognition, which identifies installed windows and doors including closed ones.

Nothing is detected when I tap the wall.

Scan the wall and the area all around the opening first — turn on Mesh to see what has actually been covered. A void that touches the edge of the scanned patch is treated as unscanned area rather than an opening. A closed door reads as solid wall; measure those with Auto-detect off, tapping two opposite corners.

It refuses to record my second pass.

That is deliberate. A repeat measured from the same spot at the same angle reproduces the same error, and three agreeing wrong numbers look like confidence. Move at least half a metre or change your angle to the wall, then tap again.

What do the badges like “3× Δ5” mean?

Three passes were taken and the largest disagreement between them was 5 mm. Green means the passes agree within 5 mm, amber within 15 mm, red beyond that — re-scan the wall or reach for a laser meter.

My measurements came back but the drawings on screen are gone.

Expected. Measurements are anchored to the augmented-reality session they were taken in; after a relaunch that coordinate frame no longer exists, so the outlines cannot be drawn in the right place. The dimensions themselves are intact and export normally.

Where do my exported files go?

Into the active project, and they stay there. Open Projects from the drawer, pick the job and tap Files. You can preview DXF sheets in the app and share any file to Files, email or a CAD app.

Which CAD applications open the DXF?

Anything that reads DXF R14 — AutoCAD, BricsCAD, DraftSight, LibreCAD, QCAD and similar. Sheets are 1:1 in millimetres with named layers, so they import at true scale. The CSV position list is semicolon-delimited for entry into LogiKal-style position sheets and German Excel.

Does the app send anything anywhere?

No. It has no networking code at all — no accounts, no analytics, no cloud. See the privacy policy.

Reporting a problem

Include the device model, iOS version, what mode you were in, and if it concerns a dimension, the pass count and spread the app displayed. If an export looks wrong, attaching the file itself is the fastest route to a fix.
